First weekend of October Hockey with the Coyotes

The Osoyoos Coyotes along with the Fernie Ghostriders are the BC Hockey Conference’s hot teams riding 4 game winning streaks.

The Coyotes treated the fans to a pair of ‘nail-biters’ on home ice with a 5-4 shoot-out win over the Beaver Valley Nighthawks and Mason Rudolph scored with a deke to slide the puck into the gaping left part of the net at which time the Coyotes poured off the bench into a gigantic leap of Coyote joy and Mason got through it without injury!

Jeyvn Gill scored and helped on Julian Galenza’s 5th goal and Tanon Charters 1st goal and more would follow next evening.

The Nighthawks were up 4 to 3 late in the game when they took a penalty with just under 2 minutes remaining. Coach Jackson Playfair then pulled goaltender Ryder Hunt for the six on four man-power and Sniper Ollie Reid got the tying goal with 26 seconds remaining.

Saturday night the undefeated Williams Lake Mustangs and the Coyotes tangled as both teams were on 3-game winning streaks.

This game rates as one of the top 10 Junior hockey games played at the Sunbowl Arena as the Desert Dogs got the better of the speedy Mustangs 4 to 3, it was a “WOW” type of hockey game.

Osoyoos got two goals in the opening period by the ‘trigger-men’; Ollie Reid with his 5th followed by Julian Galenza with his 6th a few minutes later and they were outshot 18 to 10.

The second period saw Taynon Charters take over and score two goals and shortly after his second marker, he tossed a stiff check into one of Mustangs in Coyote territory using his 155 pounds very effectively and with the goal on Friday night, Taynon had a career type of weekend.

A late 3rd period goal by the Mustangs gave us another exciting finish especially when the shots were 50 to 26 in favour of William’s Lake and to the fans it was great seeing the team skate the ‘Round Of Victory’ along the glass with fans cheering.
