Coyotes Split Weekend Pre-Season Action

The Osoyoos Coyotes beat the Summerland Jets 6 to 4 on Friday night.

3 minutes into the game, Coyotes Quinn Tavendar was awarded a penalty shot on which he scored, but it appeared that he muffed his shot and goaltender Sharkey went for the deke. The video hi-lite had over 17,000 views on Saturday night.

Zak Uphill scored on a power play in the second period, but then the Jets Paxton Olsen’s hat-trick goal gave them a 4 to 2 lead, then Izayah Zaharko scored late in the period to close the gap for the Coyotes.

The Coyotes controlled the play in the third period when Taynon Charters tied the game at the 7 minutes, and Reid Schmalz scored the winner a minute later for the Coyotes 5 to 4 victory.

Saturday afternoon the Princeton Posse defeated the Osoyoos Coyotes 6 to 4, however the game story revolves around the power play as the visitors scored 3 times on 13 power play attempts and the Coyotes were blanked on 7 power plays

The game also moved the Osoyoos-Princeton rivalry from the KIJHL to the new B.C.H.C. Junior ‘A’ level. That surfaced in a long second period that featured skirmishes and Coyote Coach Jackson Playfair picking up a bench minor for slamming the gate at the bench after a discussion with the referee.

The newest Coyote arrival, 17-year-old Ollie Reid from Coldstream scored midway through the opening period followed by Sam Degenstein and Hudson Podollan for 3 goals in 4 minutes and Julian Galenza scored his second pre-season goal early in the third period.

None of it counts officially but we now have the stage set for a three-team Valley Conference rivalry that will be kicked off officially this coming weekend.

The Summerland Jets and the Osoyoos Coyotes will have their first regular season home and home battles, Friday night at the Summerland arena, in which the Jets are expected to finally get into their dressing room after the August fire.

Then it is a Saturday night tango at the Sunbowl Arena with a 6:50 start and the skirmishes are over and the British Columbia Hockey Conference hockey war begins. Enjoy fans!
