New medical professionals are set to bolster rural communities in the South Okanagan-Similkameen region, with five anticipated arrivals by fall 2026. Community initiatives and funding from the Regional District of Okanagan-Similamken have played key roles in this recruitment effort.
The Division of Family Practice in Keremeos has announced the addition of five new family physicians to its roster by fall 2026. This expansion is a direct result of efforts supported by funding from the Regional District of Okanagan-Similamken, which includes initiatives such as the International Medical Graduates and Practice Ready Assessment programs.
In particular, the Upper Similkameen Indian Band Primary Care Clinic in Hedley will reopen after being closed due to staff shortages. Additionally, Princeton has successfully transitioned from a single doctor to three new doctors supported by community efforts, ensuring continuity of care for residents.
