Nearly one-quarter of homes tested in Osoyoos, BC exceeded radon levels above Health Canada's safety guideline, prompting immediate action from town staff ahead of winter.

Town staff reported during a council meeting that nearly one-quarter of homes in Osoyoos had radon levels above the Health Canada guideline of 200 Becquerels per cubic meter (Bq/m³). This was based on an alpha track test conducted by 88 participants, with 23% exceeding this limit. Radon is a colorless and odorless gas formed from soil breakdown that can lead to lung cancer.

Osoyoos residents were advised to consult mitigation professionals or install systems if their radon levels are above the guideline. Town staff emphasized the need for immediate action to reduce exposure, particularly as winter approaches.
