Osoyoos Coyotes beat Grand Forks Border Bruins 5 to 1

Sunbowl Area Saturday night was exciting and full of action.

Junior A hockey arrived in Osoyoos, and fans were not disappointed as the new-look Osoyoos Coyotes beat the Grand Forks Border Bruins 5 to 1 at the Sunbowl Arena on Saturday night with 400 fans liking what they saw.

The coaching staff led by Jackson Playfair get the credit for this win as the Coyotes led 1 to 0 early in the first period when Julian Galenza put the puck on the stick of Otto Spofforth who banged it in 93 seconds into the game and the rest of period 1 was owned by the Border Bruins.

They took the game to Osoyoos with fast 2 on 1 breaks and a couple of 3-on 1 but the steady game of Jet Harder in the Coyote Goal came to the forefront as the Border Bruins scored a power-play goal, a tap in, with one minute left in the opening period to tie the game at a goal each.

The rest of the game was all Coyotes with the game winning goal coming 2 minutes into the second period with the Coyotes on a power-play and Julian Galenza let a shot go from near the boards that went through a maze of sticks and legs and lodged into the corner of the Bruins Goal, Coyotes 2- Bruins 1 The shots on goal show the game change as the visitors out-shot the Yotes 12 to 8 in the opening period, however they were reduced to 3 shots on goal in the 2nd period and 6 in the third.

Gage Kiselbach made it 3 to 1 when he scorched a shot from the face-off circle into the lower corner of the goal midway through the second period and then

Jevyn Gill scored an unassisted goal flicking the puck over the Bruin net-minder late in the period and it was 4 to 1.

Jasper Knoll scored a power-play goal with 3 minutes remaining for the 5 to 1 win.

Goaltender Jet Harder was impressive as he played his angles like a seasoned pro.

Next weekend will wrap up the pre-season in a gala sort of way as the Coyotes host Summerland on Friday night and then Princeton with a Saturday 4pm game and all three teams are in the Valley Conference of the BCHC.

This is the Coyotes jousting before the real action and fans can expect physicality as the teams try to send a message without texting!
