Osoyoos Councillor Johnny Cheong has proposed a water treatment facility that combines existing well sources with lake water from Osoyoos Lake. The project aims for operational readiness by the year 2029 and is seeking provincial grants totaling $65 million.
In addition to the water treatment aspect, Cheong's plan includes establishing a municipal development corporation (MDC) to speed up other projects within the town. One such initiative is a multi-purpose facility at Desert Park, which could house various community groups.
Cheong also envisions implementing a paid parking system in Osoyoos to generate revenue from tourism-based activities. This proposal aims to address ongoing tensions and mental health issues stemming from tax protests during 2023-24 winter, which significantly affected his family.
