Oliver Town Council Retreats on Holiday Decoration Regulations

The Oliver Town Council has decided to delay implementing new holiday decoration rules, primarily due to concerns over liability and approval process complexities.

In a move to address growing concerns, the Oliver Town Council has decided not to proceed with its proposed sign regulation amendment bylaw. This decision comes after initial discussions on new specifications for large rooftop decorations in downtown commercial buildings.

Council members discussed ways to mitigate liability risks associated with such decorations and ensure proper securing without extending beyond property boundaries. The revised rules would limit these decorations to a 90-day period, but also include enhanced liability protection through release forms absolving the town from any responsibility.

However, Mayor Martin Johansen raised significant concerns about the approval process, particularly regarding engineer sign-off requirements. This has led to further delays in finalizing and implementing the proposed regulations.
