Osoyoos Council Rejects Development Variance for Chardonnay Court Residence
The Osoyoos council has rejected a Development Variance Permit (DVP) application for a residence on Chardonnay Court, following discussions and concerns raised by residents regarding parking space and potential unauthorized secondary suites.
In a decision that drew criticism from residents and raised concerns about precedent-setting applications, the Osoyoos council voted to deny a Development Variance Permit for a residence on Chardonnay Court. The motion was approved in a 3-2 vote with Mayor Sue McKortoff and Councillor Zach Poturica supporting the decision.
Council members discussed issues including insufficient parking space on the property line, which would have accommodated an unauthorized secondary suite within the property. Terrill Hectner, who raised concerns about additional unauthorized suites, noted that this could set a precedent for future applications, prompting a thorough review of the variance application.
