Starfish Pack Program in Oliver Needs Funding

According to Castanet Oliver/Osoyoos, the Oliver-area Starfish Pack program needs funding for just one week of food. The program, which is run by local organizer Sam Marsel and supports four schools, costs $1,000 per week to feed 45 kids over a school year.

The number of participating children increased from 30 to 45 this past year, with volunteers packing bags with fresh fruits and vegetables each weekend. The program provides two breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks per week.

Organizers are seeking funds for the upcoming school year, which will cover a total of $40,000 in costs for one school year.
