Sewage Smell Reduced in Osoyoos After Chemical Treatment
Osoyoos residents experience reduced sewage odor after chemical treatment.
According to Castanet Oliver/Osoyoos, Osoyoos residents have reported a significant reduction in sewage smell after the Operational Services Department began adding Biomaxx Oxyn8 to the sewage system. The project was initiated by Mayor Sue McKortoff and has resulted in a noticeable decrease in odour levels across the lagoons.
Coun. Johnny Cheong reported that the smell has decreased from 10 out of 10 to around 2 out of 10 over time. The Town of Osoyoos plans preventative maintenance for utilities and has fixed some issues like sewer sludge backups and broken aerators. The project cost $382,000 and was expedited from 2029 to 2026 due to ongoing problems with the operations director vacancy.
Osoyoos residents are breathing easier after two months of treatment effect. The Operational Services Department's efforts have led to a significant reduction in sewage smell, making the community a more pleasant place to live.
The project was part of an effort to address ongoing issues with the sewage system, which had been causing problems for residents and staff. With the addition of Biomaxx Oxyn8, the Town of Osoyoos is now better equipped to handle wastewater treatment and reduce odour levels.
