Osoyoos Town Council Implements Water Conservation Measures Amidst Drought

In response to unprecedented drought conditions, Osoyoos' Town Council has taken decisive action by reducing water use across various municipal operations and facilities.

In response to the severe drought conditions in the Osoyoos area, which has reached unprecedented Stage 5 levels and marks the lowest lake level in over 80 years, the Town Council has implemented a series of comprehensive water conservation measures. These include reducing operating hours at Jack Shaw Splash Park from its usual schedule to conserve precious resources. Additionally, the council has reduced the capacity of the town's water treatment plant from 24.7 million liters per day to 17 million liters per day as part of their strategy for achieving reduction targets.

Beyond these measures, the council has also taken steps such as inspecting irrigation fixtures at parks and lawns, ensuring that watering is minimized or halted where necessary. Fleet vehicles are only washed if safety requires it, and self-watering planters have been planned to further reduce water usage.
