Osoyoos Rotarians Head to Liberia for Maternal Health Project
Osoyoos Rotarians are embarking on a 10-day journey to Liberia to build a clinic and support maternal health initiatives.
Castanet Oliver/Osoyoos reported that the Osoyoos Rotarians are planning a 10-day trip to Liberia to build a clinic for maternal health. The project aims to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in Liberia.
The clinic will be built with support from I Care for Moms, an organization that has worked with the Osoyoos club for about 14 years, including building water systems. The Osoyoos branch received a $9,500 grant from the Rotary Foundation for the second clinic construction.
During their trip, Rotarians Sherry and Jim Chamberlain will initiate clinic construction and distribute sanitary kits. They will also support local women's health through menstrual hygiene education sessions.
The project is part of I Care for Moms' Days for Girls program, which helps girls continue schooling by providing affordable sanitary supplies.
