The Town of Osoyoos is taking steps to address excessive water use in residential areas, with some properties using thousands of litres per irrigation.

According to Castanet Oliver/Osoyoos, the Town of Osoyoos has noted excessive residential water use, with some properties using thousands of litres per irrigation. Interim chief administrative officer Marg Coulson presented preliminary data at a Committee of the Whole meeting.

Outdoor watering is identified as the town's biggest contributor to water consumption. Coulson recommends further actions including water metering data analysis and conservation measures like xeriscaping.

Mayor Sue McKortoff welcomes public suggestions for conserving resources, noting it's a national issue. Water conservation efforts include installing high-efficiency fixtures and using reclaimed water for irrigation.
