Osoyoos Fire Rescue Prepares for Wildfire Smoke in South Okanagan

Osoyoos Fire Rescue has been monitoring a significant wildfire in Washington State that is moving northward towards the Canadian border. The Incident Management Team located the blaze approximately 20 kilometers west of Tonasket, Washington State, with an estimated current size of 9,866 hectares (24,380 acres). Although there are no immediate concerns for Osoyoos town, residents have been warned about possible decreased air quality due to winds carrying smoke from the wildfire. Osoyoos Fire Rescue has issued advice on how to deal with smoke-related poor air quality.

Additionally, the incident is impacting nearby communities such as Loomis and Logan Lake in Washington State, prompting evacuations and warnings for residents there. The BC Wildfire Service and Incident Management Team are coordinating efforts with local authorities to manage the situation.
