Osoyoos Community Rallies Around 11-Year-Old Girl Fighting Cancer

Dozens of Osoyoos residents shaved their heads to raise funds for Tianna Jaylen Laranjo-Huntington, an 11-year-old battling rare bone cancer.

According to Castanet Oliver/Osoyoos, and posts on Facebook, a community event was held at Lakeview Plaza on Sunday to support 11-year-old Tianna Laranjo-Huntington, who is fighting rare bone cancer. The event included a community BBQ fundraiser with $20 per head contributions.

The fundraiser aimed to raise funds for Tianna's treatment in Vancouver and also supported her family members, Travis and Alison, who are part of the Laranjo-Huntington family. Local handmade items were sold at the event, adding to the community's support for Tianna.

Tianna's GoFundMe campaign has raised nearly $40,000 of its $100,000 goal, with local donations also contributing to the total amount. The event was organized by Osoyoos resident Terry Shauna Powers and brought together dozens of residents who shaved their heads to raise funds for Tianna.

Ewing Sarcoma is an aggressive bone cancer affecting young people due to a non-inherited genetic mutation causing cell division and tumor formation.
