Oliver Airport User Fee Proposal Fails to Gain Council Support
A proposal to implement user fees at Oliver Airport, similar to those found at golf courses or gyms, was rejected by the council.
According to Castanet Oliver/Osoyoos, a proposal to implement user fees at Oliver Airport has failed to gain council support. The motion, proposed by outgoing Coun. David Mattes, aimed to cover financial deficits by charging users fees similar to those found at golf courses or gyms.
The proposal was discussed at an Oct. 13 town hall meeting and was set to be voted on during the same meeting. However, council members did not second the motion, resulting in its rejection.
Although the proposal failed, incoming council may reassess airport user fees in the future. Additional revenue from hangar lessees could subsidize other municipal expenses like water, roads, sewer, and reserves into 2027.
