Montreal Jazz Legend Oliver Jones Remembered

Oliver Jones, a legendary jazz pianist and mentor to young musicians, has passed away in Montreal at the age of 91.

Born in Little Burgundy, known as Harlem of the North, Jones was taught by Daisy Sweeney, sister of Oscar Peterson. He went on to win numerous awards, including the Juno Award, Order of Canada, and Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Jones was a virtuoso who performed alongside Oscar Peterson in 2004 and mentored many young musicians throughout his career. Longtime friend Ranee Lee described him as sincere and humble.
