IJC's Working Group Seeks Public Input on Osoyoos Lake Watershed Board
The International Joint Commission (IJC) has initiated public sessions to gather input for a proposed international watershed board focused on managing water resources in Osoyoos Lake. The first session will be held at the Sonora Community Centre on July 7th, with an additional virtual session scheduled for July 15th.
The International Joint Commission (IJC) has launched a series of public engagement sessions to gather input for the establishment of an international watershed board dedicated to managing water resources in Osoyoos Lake. The first session will be held at the Sonora Community Centre on July 7th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Additionally, a virtual session is scheduled for July 15th, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. These sessions aim to ensure that local input informs the development of IJC's working group's recommendations on water quality, quantity, and system health in Osoyoos Lake. The final report is anticipated by spring 2027 after all public engagement sessions have been conducted.
The proposed board will be a part of the broader initiative to address water management issues for Osoyoos Lake, which has faced challenges due to wildfire threats in nearby N.W.T., and extreme heat waves expected in Ontario. The IJC's working group is also considering the feasibility study released by the Osoyoos International Watershed Board as a reference point.
