BC Wildfire Service Responds to Multiple Fires in South Okanagan and West Kootenay

Following an initial incident near Anarchist Mountain, BC Wildfire Service has now brought multiple wildfires under control in the South Okanagan and West Kootenay region. The latest development saw a fire off Sasquatch Trail reach manageable levels after being out of control for nearly a day.

Following a lightning strike off Sasquatch Trail on July 24th, BC Wildfire Service reported the fire as out of control at 0.009 hectares. By evening, this fire had been brought under control by ground and aerial resources.

Meanwhile, another wildfire near Mt. Baldy Road reached an estimated size of 1.7 hectares but was successfully managed with a combination of ground and aerial efforts. A smaller blaze to the northeast, initially at 0.3 hectares, has also been extinguished.

In total, BC Wildfire Service responded to over 750 lightning strikes in the region, resulting in numerous wildfires. Despite these challenges, firefighting personnel have managed to bring most fires under control.
