Osoyoos Lake ice jam study could guide future water management

A new cross-border study by the International Osoyoos Lake Board of Control and the U.S. Geological Survey examines historical ice jam formations on Osoyoos Lake. Researchers analyzed 80 years of data and identified 16 ice jam events since 1942, with a notable increase occurring over the last decade. The findings will help local authorities better manage water levels, anticipate future ice jams, and protect sensitive downstream salmon eggs.
