RCMP Discusses Violent Crime Increase and E-Scooter Regulation Controversy in Osoyoos
Osoyoos RCMP has reported an uptick in violent crime calls for service, with the majority of incidents involving drug or alcohol-related assaults. Additionally, tensions have risen over e-scooter regulations as parents disagree with new rules.
RCMP Sergeant Jason Bayda addressed concerns at the Osoyoos RCMP council meeting, highlighting data indicating a five-fold increase in violent crime calls for service in Q1 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. Most of these incidents were assaults linked to drug or alcohol use.
Parents have also been vocal about their opposition to e-scooter and e-bike regulations, which they believe infringe on their children's freedom.
