Chemical Spill Leaves Lasting Smell in Downtown Osoyoos
A vehicle spill on Main Street last week left a persistent rotten egg smell in downtown Osoyoos.
According to Castanet Oliver/Osoyoos, a vehicle spill of lime sulphur on Main Street occurred last week.
The Ministry of Environment and Parks noted the incident and concluded that additional response actions would be unadvantageous.
Lime sulphur is used for agricultural pest control and is poisonous and corrosive. A street sweeper cleaned up some of the spill, but not all of it.
The Ministry expects the chemical to erode naturally over time, leaving a lasting smell in the downtown area.
